Always have to fish Father's Day, regardless of the weather. Today was much uglier weather wise than what had even been predicted yesterday. Pretty steady drizzle in the morning with a little bit of wind. Dad taught me all about fishing, not catching, fishing. I fondly remember my brother and I on the boat with dad, losing interest because we hadn't caught a fish in 5 minutes, and our dad could "tap tap" our line with his rod, and every time we swore up and down a fish just hit our line. He knew how to keep us interested. Would love to spend the day on the water with him one last time, just so he could know that I have come to understand what he always tried to tell me about fishing when I was a kid, and that it keeps my interest up regardless of how many, if any fish have hit my line.
Started my morning, turning north out of the launch, heading towards where I found the fish last time out there. 1 line a green Doc Spratley fly, 16 inches of leader, and pink mack's double d dodger. Line down 10 feet. Other line a size 4 olive Woolly Bugger, 16 inches of leader, chrome double d. line down 15 feet. With the water warming some, fish have pretty much moved from the bottom, and last few times out seem to be between 10-20 feet. Immediately landed one of the green Doc Spratley. I then proceeded to get on and lose 4 consecutive fish on the Woolly Bugger until number 5 finally made it to the net. I am now 2-6... feels like I am kokanee fishing. I made the dumb mistake of leaving those fish to go find other fish, which were not there. So I headed back to where I started and got back to work. The fish made me pay for leaving by having to scratch around my flies to find something they would bite. Once I had landed one on a fly, the fish refused to bite it again. I ended my day with 5 in the box, all coming on a different fly. First fish a green Doc Spratley, next an olive Woolly Bugger, next a red Carey Special, next a olive Carey Special, and finally last a black Woolly Bugger.
All fish caught from 10-15 down. Speed they wanted from me was 1.25 - 1.50. Nothing bit any slower or faster. In all I had 11 on to get my 5. Most of the get-offs happened with net in hand too. That was fine, kept me out of the lake longer. Call them catch and long-line release :) Somehow I think I found the last remaining 12 inch fish in the entire lake, as the rest were 14-16 inches, and again very healthy. The 16 inch fish came in at 1.83lbs. Healthy for a 16 inch fish.
A little drizzle first thing in the morning, so I apologize for the rain sound the first 2 clips.
