Scheduled a trip on Lake Sammamish with a guest/guide Paul Lewis of Fast Action Fishing Adventures. Arrived at the boat launch around 6:30am, launched the boat and combined the rods and gear that Paul has doing so well with this season on the cutthroat and Started fishing around the bass cove I believe and started our fishing there. Lines in the water by 7:00-7:15am. We started out by using the Reli Lures "Diamond Flash Spinners" in Pink, 50/50 Silver and the new color Red Ruby that will be on the market soon, trolled with 14-16 inch leaders behind Sling blade dodgers. Also tipped the hooks with a piece of night crawler. Then dipped in krill/Anise dipping sauce and Pro Cure Glow. Fishing anywhere from 20-40 feet. Not 5 minutes into setting the rods down on the rigger, fish on!! A nice 15-16" Cutthroat! Not to long after, we were into a double, brought those fish in with already 3 fish in the boat in a matter of 10-15 minutes. We were catching fish from 20-40 feet mostly coming from 20-30 feet of the water column. I think we had about 3 doubles in the whole trip then bite died off little bit and we were back in getting single hookups running 4 rods. Once that bite off, we decided to head back up lake towards the pod of fish we were hitting earlier. Started resetting our gear again then about 2 minutes in the rod starts bouncing at about 20 feet and a 19 and half inch cutthroat on the end! I'll tell you, what a fight that fish put up! Just pealing drag and the rod was bent in half. Fished for about 5-6 hours and ended up with 17 of the biggest Cutthroat I've ever seen, in the box! With singles and doubles being the norm. We even managed to put some really nice size perch out there in the box as well. I'll tell you I'm a huge fan of this lake. It was also great having Paul of Fast Action Fishing Adventures on the boat as well, his knowledge that he's gathered over the years, shines on the results in the cooler! Thanks again Paul for showing us how to fish out there and looking forward to fishing with again. What a great day on the water and I can't to get back out there and hammer on them again! Tight lines everybody!
Nice, drop shot hooks are my favorite hook for my homemade stuff for sure... hope your getting a better deal on them than I do! I mentioned the silver plating because Ive been playing with some genuine silver plated colorado blades from hagens. They definitely have a lot more flash, but I've been wondering if the extra flash might be counterproductive for trout.
Honestly, if we were denting the cutthroat population, WDFW would say something first or reduce the daily limit. There probably wouldn't be a fishery if that was the case! 30-50 thousand fish in the lake. As long as your not abusing the population and take what you need, you're doing fine.
