Took my pontoon boat to Leland last weekend. Trolled for trout with a pink hooch kokanee rig and had 5 fish in an hour. Easy.... So floated over to the Lilly pads and scared the hell out of school of somethin, so bobber and a worm and bingo, bluegill, one after the other the rest of the day. I only kept a few cause most were small. Perch too.

I was wondering if it's permitted to keep a few small ones for my aquarium. Anyone know the rules on that?

There's is a federal rule actually stating that any domestic(native) species cannot be kept captive as a pet. Not sure if this applies to fish.

There's been tons of BIG bluegill this year, kinda weird. There were hundreds of really small ones last year so guessing they ate good this last year?

Lots of people put them in aquariums, and it is illegal. That said I've never heard of anyone being hit by SWAT for it. I may have had bass and bluegill for a few years in an aquarium as a kid, but it was probably a dream... Same thing as captive deer, whatever the reason.
