We were trying to decide on which lake to hit, Stevens or Cavanaugh well we finally made our decision of hitting both in one day! So we wanted to fish Cavanaugh first and arrived at the lake around 5:30 and lines in the water by 6:00am. Started out with the Reli Lures Diamond flash spinners in 50/50 Silver and UV Pink. Another rod was rigged with the Reli Lures Kokanee Beaded spinner in pink/purple. On the other side of the boat we were running the God's Tooth Kokanee rigs in 50/50 Blue and 50/50 Gold. Took us about an hour to finally find where the Kokanee and Cutthroat were but once we found the location, depth (which was around 25-35 feet) and speed it was lights out fishing! Single and double takedowns were the norm! These Kokanee are great size, fatter than the ones out at Stevens! We limited out in about 2 hours with a mix bag of Kokanee and Cutthroat. So we did wrap it up after catching our limits and decided to hit Stevens since we were done so early! Arrived at Stevens around noon and fishing the exact same setups and hooked around 6-7 Kokanee but we managed to put 4 nice Kokanee in the box including a good sized rainbow trout in about 3 hours. For anybody that's wanting to hit Stevens or Cavanaugh I would definitely recommend hitting it bright and early, we've found that the bite will die off as the day goes on. What a great day on the water and can wait to get back out there and do it again!
