Ran a lure test for the OG1 in 1.8" and 2.8" for the rainbows in the Potholes. Primarily fished the eastern shoreline.
We ran two rods closer to the surface: 1.5 ounces of trolling weight on one and 1 ounce of trolling weight on the other. (We attached a Mack's double-d dodger on the outside rod. Really like the way these dodgers can be configured to move the lure away from the boat.) On one of these rods, we ran a 1.8" OG1 in fluorescent white and pink. We started with a 2.44" fluorescent green/orange on the other.
We ran one rod on the downrigger. Initially we fished a 2.8" perch on this; but, switched to a new gold with black-scales not long into the trip.
Within minutes, we had a fish on the 1.8" OG1 fluorescent white and pink. A really nice 'bow that tossed the lure the third or fourth time he went vertical. Shortly after this we had a fish (that I'm guessing was a walleye) on the 2.8" perch; never made it to the boat. But, this fish stayed down and never came up like the rainbows.
I switched the perch on the downrigger to the new 2.8" OG1 in gold and black scales. This lure took two very nice 19" rainbows for us. (The rods running closer to the surface never had another takedown all morning. Guessing that the fish went deeper as the sun became brighter.)
