I've been wanting to give Columbia River Walleye another shot for quite a while. Between business, chasing salmon and steelhead, time has been tight. I do love these fish, and today their pursuit brought me to a day on the river with it's magnificent vistas of basalt cliffs and green spring meadows in the high country. Equipped with light spinning rod, a few jigs, and a box of worms, my friend Brian Jones shared his knowledge about this part of the river as I hadn't a clue being far from my usual turf. We arrived at Rufus, OR at the crack 'o dawn. A light warm westerly breeze brought in the smells of the water and sage as we began to tick our baited jigs across the river bottom waiting for that subtle take--like a jellyfish catching your line. I came home to a happy and hungry wife as we settled in for the evening with crisp walleye fillets and asparagus for dinner. It all makes you pretty thankful.
