After a couple pretty poor trips for LMB at local lakes, I decided to head back to Goodwin to see what was up with the Smallies. My son and I hit the water at about 8 AM and went to the usual spots. I started with hula grubs and pretty much stayed with them all day. It wasn't a red hot bite but reasonably consistent and we managed to get 8 or 10 to the boat, with three nice ones between 2.25 and 2.75 pounds. One of the bigger fish was on a swimjig and one was on a crank. Some fish seemed to be still on the beds, but couldn't tell for sure since we were fishing from 6-12' deep, and with a ripple on the water beds were not visible. All fish released unharmed. We wrapped it up about 3 PM.
