Went up to the cabin on Loon for the holiday weekend and it wouldn't be a complete a trip without some night fishing after boating and jet skiing in the beautiful weather we had during the day. The first night we went out was Friday, coldest night of the weekend by far, and only ended up with 3 keepers and putting 3 back to grow after 3+ hours of fishing. We were the only ones out there that night and it was definitely the worst night of our fishing adventures. After debating whether or not to go out Saturday night we still headed on out to the hole by Granite Point and after a day of warm weather the fish seemed to be slightly more active. I wasn't catching anything for the longest time and my friend Blair seemed to be raking them in, but soon roles were reversed and we each ended up with 8 keepers apiece and tossed a couple fish back to grow once again. Upon returning to the dock at around 12:30 to clean the fish, I went up the stairs to the cabin to grab some ziplock bags and coming back down the stairs realized I could see the Northern Lights out to Northeast, first time ever seeing them! After hearing of our success; Pops, the non-fisherman, decided to get a license and join us. Made it out to Granite at around 9:45 and it didn't take long for the action to begin. It seemed with each warm, successive day, the fishing got better, since we used the exact same setup in the exact same spot, I believe that is what caused our varying results. I ended up limiting out, Blair had 9, plus a nice rainbow trout on which we decided to end the night(the pic doesn't do it justice), and the old man had 5, not too shabby for the guy.

Our setup is pretty simple 28-32 ft of water, the boat tends to drift since Dad only has one anchor, one float light, a clamp light on the boat railing to see the rod tips, ultra light rods with a splitshot and glow hooks tipped with maggots.

All in all, it was a wonderful first weekend at the lake and good to be back in my fishing element. Maybe I'll conquer Hawaii's waters my sophomore year.

Tight lines everyone- Spencer
