Fished Long Lake this morning for some trout and perch. The lake was fogged in when I launched at 7 am. Starting trolling an orange and perch Kekeda shortly after the resort. Fished anywhere from 14 to 26 feet of water in the river channel. Had a limit of rainbows and a few dead (don't know how on earth they ended up like that) northern pikeminnnow in about a hour. Had three on the perch and two on the orange. Switched over to a new orange Kekeda marahooch with a couple beads and a gold smile blade pulled about 3' behind a bottom bouncer for perch. Found a long flat that was between 10 and 14 feet and started slowly trolling the flat. Not 30 seconds after dropping the rig I had a nice healthy 11" perch. In the next two hours I caught 16 perch that all went between 10 and 11". These were great looking perch and would inhale that marahooch with a chunk of nightcrawler. Had to call it quits at 10 to get home but even caught one as the motor was being shut down to head back. One of those days you hate to quit. I'll just have to head back to get some more soon! Give a marahooch a try for your perch and walleye rigs, they add a ton of action and color to a spinner rig.

I guess when I thought about how many perch are caught while bottom bouncing for walleye it made sense. I think it worked well for targeting those bigger, more aggressive fish. Filleted them out and they're waiting for their hot oil bath!

Nice Dave. Catching perch trolling; awesome! ! You pass my house on the way to the launch. Give holler would love to go if you need a net man. I'll have to get some of the new flies and give them a whirl. All of the others you make are great!

Sounds great, Alan! I toyed around with the marahooch down at Chelan for the Kokanee. It worked really well there and here again it proved to add a good amount of action and attraction. I'll let you know when I head out again.

Did you happen to notice any carp jumping around and spawning?
thx,
Dan

I only saw a couple roaming the flats near the resort. Didn't hear a single one jump nor did I see any cruising out in the main lake yet.

They are netting the carp there now. Killed over 300 last week, plus 117 Northern Pike, with the biggest around 23lbs. Alo heard there was a 30" walleye killed. Sad

I read they had been netting the lake and killed a lot of carp and pike . I wish they'd leave the damn lake alone,it will find it's own balance. Some of us enjoy the opportunity to catch some decent muscle fish and a big carp or pike will certainly give you a workout as a change from bass and the practically inedible trout they keep putting in.It's a shame really,we have one of the best mixed fisheries in the country here and they just cannot stop tinkering with and wasting money, mostly to no avail. They will never get rid of the carp, they are here to stay, that has been proven by the results of efforts to eradicate them elsewhere and contrary to what you hear about them dirtying the water they don't make it anywhere near as dirty as the boaters, skiers and PWC that are tearing up and down washing out the banks.
