My wife consented to chase walleyes today as long as we went out for breakfast first and waited until it warmed up a bit, neither condition unreasonable. We headed to the north end noting boats scattered throughout the lake. We had lines in the water by 10 AM working water 7-11'. Slow death rigs in chartreuse, green and orange with night crawlers were pulled at 1.0 MPH. It took 30-40 minutes until we pulled in a nice 21" eye. Over the next 3 hours we landed 8 keepers and 2 dinks. We lost another nice fish at the boat. The fishing was steady and the weather cooperated making it a nice outing.

Slight concessions and yet worth it. Well done. Is the Sidewinder out producing conventional style? Thanks for the report. Andy

Sidewinders got 7 of the 8 keepers. Still haven't fished them on a big fish day but I am becoming a believer in them.

I am wondering is the sidewinder just used to get your rig out to the side of your boat and do you use them without the down rigger? Thanks, Mike

Sidewinder is a side-planer that runs on the surface, you cannot run them in conjuncion with a downrigger

Hey doc, I see the pole arrangement and wondering if you were using planers....we have thought about trying them.
Thanks,

Craig & Linda, A sidewinder planer with Hooked on Toys modifications, 1 out each side with 2 rods straight out the back. We have used them the last 4 trips and landed 30 walleyes and over 20 have come off of the sidewinders. I need to fish the same rigs off both setups on a busy fish day to know for sure but I suspect the sidewinders will make a difference. Any comments from anyone appreciated. Jim

Fishindoc, what are the Hooked on Toys modifications you are talking about?
