I headed up to Lost Lake again today. It was very breezy and temperatures were in the upper forties (lower fifties by the time I left). The bite was very active. In two hours I caught 13 Rainbows on Kastmasters. I was using a Rainbow color, quarter ounce Kastmaster. Honestly, I don't think it really matters. The lake has been stocked, and I think they will bite on just about anything right now.
Two of these were very nice, 16 inches and about a pound and a half a piece. I kept the ones that inhaled the spinner and would probably not live. The scenery was gorgeous, and the couple of beers I drank went down nicely and I hated to come home to do hours of yard work! But, my motto is "Work hard, play hard." Today I did both.
Weird side note, the limit I did retain had gravel in their bellies. I don't think planted Rainbows are very bright. Perhaps this is why they are so easy to catch.
I'm looking forward to the snow melting and to hiking into some alpine lakes soon.
