I wanted to fish Samish but fortunately checked the WDFW site the night before and there was a "tournament" this weekend, so I swung by Shoecraft instead and the launch and weird abandoned car sketched me out so I went home. Messed around for a bit at the house and then decided to run up to McMurray.
Last time I was here I didn't even SEE a bass and was wondering if it had been killed off? Well, they are there and in just a short amount of time jumped into spawning! Not too many committed to beds but they are definitely cruising and pairing up. I switched between a chatterbait, jig and a Texas rig. This lake has more of a crawdad / perch population than pumpkinseed so i didn't throw the swim jig at all. I like the chatterbait because it moves slow and just irritates the crap out of them when they're flirting it seems. I also like lizards now and through the spawn, something about lizards this time of year? The jig is what I figured would produce and it did. The two bigger fish, 4.2 and 4.8, hit the jig in shallow and the two smaller 2-2.5's came slow rolling the lizard through the few pads that are showing.
Talked to a guy at the launch that limited on trout in the same amount of time I was there and that wasn't but three hours.
