Errrrrr..... was really hoping the nice weather would get my old favorite koke lake active again but no such luck.

Trolled around for about 30 min in front of the public dock over the top of what I thought were kokes.... nada. So I trekked down by the red airplane (north end of the lake) and all I hooked were raninbows which I couldn't even land. Smh.

Finally my rod starts going crazy and I'm thinking it's a nice Koke because I put one rod on the wire down at 20ft. To my surprise I haul in a 16 inch hold over. Bonked em and reset the gear. 5 min later another hold over at around 15 inches but thick. Finally decided to pull out the second rod and flatline and finally got some strikes and you wouldn't believe it... a Kokanee finally hit. Not very good because I went 0/3 on them and they were the smallest ones I've ever seen there.

Still trolling the north end by the airplane my downrigger rod goes off again and to my surprise another hold over trout. This guy got the best of me as the trail hook of my wedding ring snapped. I hadn't changed it out since last year so all on me. With the good weather and two nice rainbows that ended up having bright orange meat (see pic above) I'd say it wasn't a bad trip. Sad that the Koke fishing isn't anywhere what it used to be. Maybe next year??? Anyways, the rainbows tasted delicious, we just finished dinner.

Sorry this wasn't the good report for Meridian that I've been waiting for. Looks like another bad year.
Might just try Lk. Wa for Koks. Haven't heard anything bad about it ...YET!

I'm with ya. The last few years have been a serious struggle on Meridian for kokes. I'm going to email the local WDFW bio and see if they have any input.

hmm... but no picture evidence of kokanee... Just kidding... kinda
Ive been out three times this year with quality new sonar and everything I targeted turned out to be rainbows. I think I might brave the rain and give another try this evening. If the ones you saw were that small, I think two generations were wiped out by the kokanee plague.

You know DJ, this is your fault. Before a few years ago, when you started dominating Meridian fish, I only knew Kokanee as a beer.

Any idea what to use to jig these kokanee? Ive heard second hand rumors of a Russian guy in a rowboat that used to slay these Kokanee, still fishing, not far from the launch.
