Day three of 3 day fishing trip.
Woke to windy conditions. Launched at Cornet Bay with the intent of heading into the Straight to target halibut and spot shrimp. No sooner did we pass through Deception Pass then we hit major rollers and breaking waves. We've never seen those conditions so close to the bridge before and in some places it looked like a giant washing machine. It appeared all the boats in front of us were turning around and heading back in or taking shelter in by the beach at the State Park. We found an opening between the rollers and pulled into the sheltered area too. After watching a few more boats hit the rollers and hightail it back under the bridge, we decided that we were not going to have a fun or safe day if we attempted to head farther out and the forecast didn't look like things were going to change, so opted to head down the inside of the Whidbey to find a shrimp hole. The Skagit was puking mud and debris, so had to dodge some logs and root balls on the way, but found a spot to drop pots.....along with 200 of our closest friends. Shrimping wasn't great, but good enough. In 7 hours we got 250. Didn't fill our boat limit, but went home happy and enjoyed the time on the water.
