Hoping for a swimbait bite I checked over the WFWD trout stocking schedule for Snohomish and Skagit Counties. When I found out that Grandy had been stocked just a couple days before that's where I decided to go.
My hopes for no wind were dashed the minute we pulled into the launch area...it was blowing straight down the lake from the West. We worked our way into the wind and worked the shallow area at the West end. Nothing happening and water temp was about 52 degrees. We let the wind blow us down the North shore tossing swimjigs, cranks, plastics and spinbaits without success.
The wind blew us at about 5 knots to the East end of the lake so my son suggested we drop the anchor near the pilings that stretch across the lake. Once we got situated I started tossing a swimjig and he put on a River2Sea S-Waver in Rainbow trout pattern. A few minutes later he hooked his first bass, about a 15 incher. It came up with a bunch of "salad" indicating that it had come out of the grass to smack the swimbait. Over the next hour or so he caught a couple more and I caught one--also on the S-Waver. Not much size to them, but they had no problem tackling the 8" glide baits!
We didn't find any big ones, but it was a good day with our best luck yet with the bigger swimbaits.
