This report is for saturday the 4th and the previous sunday.
Target- bull trout/dolly varden
Method- flyfishing
Tackle- 6wt with an intermediate tip and nymphs.
Location- (canadian) skagit river upstream of ross lake.
Last sunday i fished for 5 hours in the afternoon dead drifting/swinging nymphs for char. I ended up going 4/7. its hard to say whether they were bulls or dollies, because apparently dolly varden do reside in this river (or so i was told) the fish themselves are fluvial and lacustrine fish, some of which migrate up this river from ross lake to spawn. The fish in the run i was in were semi active, it basically took changing flies or at least the color to instigate strikes. I ended up catching them on a stonefly nymph, a pheasant tail, a hairs ear nymph and a size 12 green mini leach
Yesterday was similar to sunday, semi active fish. went 2/4 in 3 hours. One came on a ruby size 10 mini leech and the other on a pheasant tail. The rainbows were more active feeding near the surface but i was too occupied with the bulls and didn't have my dry fly rod with me. I did see a guy catch a nice fat 18" or so bow while passing by the run he was fishing.
The fish i caught ranged between 18"-25" all released of coarse as per the regs- bait ban, barbless and catch and release.
