Pink Salmon
All Day

I ate my words for saying pink salmon are easy to catch. After a whole week in northern B.C. I had only 2 fish on, which both threw the hook. Watched many swim past, almost stepped on one as I was wading out to flyfish, and nearly got knocked off my feet after a big spawned out chum ran into me. The very last day, I finally found willing pink salmon, but they were big humped males, not worth eating. So by now if you are thinking why make such a long trek, well I had the nice surprise of early Coho invading the river I was fishing. With barbless hooks, they are even better at throwing the hook, but the smallest Coho I had on stayed on. Now I have really nice fillets in my freezer.

Boy, that's the luck isn't it. Nice fish, we don't get to fish COHO this year but the tribes still get to NET the heck outa the runs.

RichieRich: I was in the vicinity of Prince Rupert. Jimbo: thanks. I had pretty much written off coho this year. So catching one really made my day. The native friends I have and commercial fisherman friends are all complaining about a lack of fish this year. One who fishes Prince William Sound didn't even stick around for coho. Pretty sad to see. I wish everyone could have a chance to hook into a wild fully charged coho with all its energy. while I wouldn't have minded more, I am happy to have left plenty more for the next generation, because even a little bit of something good is worth far more then none at all.
