So i met up with a local fisherman from bc early this morning, and we went to his favorite set of runs and pools. I wont share where this is of coarse. So the day started a little slow, the first pool produced nothing for me, but just as we were about to move on my friend set the hook on a nice fish, played it well, and got it to hand. He got this one swinging a gold/chartreuse 2/5oz spoon. After that we hit the next run to no avail and quickly move on again. At the next hole, i begin working the run with a matte white bc steel spoon. A few casts in, i set the hook and land a nice bull of roughly 20" or so, as we were getting ready to take a pic it popped off the hook and swam off, ohh well, plenty more where that came from. Sure enough, we both landed 2 fish in that run alone. We moved down to the next hole, and decided this was going to be a fly run, so we put our gear rods down and worked that run down to the tail out. After about 10 minutes we hooked up with doubles, his was a smaller 14" fish, which he quickly released, mine was a 20" fatty of a bull, snapped a pic and sent it on its way.. After another 15 minutes of whipping the run to a froth with our flies, we changed over to a spoon again. I landed another bull of 17"-18" on the spoon, this time it was a 2/5oz crimson/gold p-line spoon. I also had a bull follow and try to grab a spoon 3ft from my feet. After this we went back to the truck and drove to another pull off, and fished another 3 runs, which produced 3 more bulls for him, bringing our combined total to 11 bull trout for the day to hand, him 7 me 4. It was just awe inspiring how beautiful the land is here, pictures dont do it justice. A wonderful way to spend a febuary day.
