Selected Alaska because Oregon wasn't listed and the site required I pick a location.
Went to Garibaldi, OR on a touring vacation. I inquired to see if they were going to fish for Tuna. The tuna were too far out, but the fall Ling season was due on 10/1. I signed up with Garibaldi Charters on the D&D. $120 for the trip and about $30 for non-resident fishing and crabbing licenses. We started out of the harbor at about 7:15. We had 10 customers, the deckie and the captain on board. Out a few minutes we dropped crab pots. Total run to where we fished was about an hour and twenty minutes. We fished bullet sinkers with double hooks with two flies up the line. We dropped in about 485 feet of water. First drop, I got about a 12# canary Rockfish that had to be released. Second drop, I got a 20+ ling on the deckie knocked off with the gaff after about 6 stabs at it. Ditto on the third drop. The fourth I got about a 10 pounder, with another following on the next drift. About then we took the double hooks off the bottom as the boats Ling limit had been met (2 per person). For the remainder of the trip we slightly shifted position and caught a combination of lings that had to be released and Yellowtail that were retained. I think the boat was slightly short of a limit on Yellowtail (7 rockfish per person limit) but I got my 7. We then pulled up and headed in. Saw whales pretty close on the way in, then stopped and pulled crab pots. We got 70 keeper crabs. 7 per person. No wind so seas had a 6'swell with no chop. It was very pleasant. No one got sick. When we got back, they dropped the crabs with a processor and the fish at a fillet station. Cooking the crab and filleting the fish were included in the trip price.
