Headed down to the river looking to see what was shakin'. Main target was Channel Catfish. Got one good bite but lost the fish. I think I'm going back to standard hooks, hard to teach an old dog a new trick. Circle hooks are not working for me. While fishing for Pike Minnows for bait (on worms), hung a Steelhead in the shallows but just momentarily.

It's hard not to set the hook, but just tighten up. I prefer the standards, even after fishing the circles long enough to hook 'em. Now if trot lines were still legal... (course we'd be outta fish!)

Yeh I've never done the circle hook thing either. Most of the time if we miss the fish were able to toss out another piece of bait and get it hooked up withing 5-10 minutes. Ill have to fish for some crappie next weekend and keep one or two for bait for the weekend after for catfish and head that way.

Circle hooks never worked for me either and I guess I don't get all the hype about them. Snell have worked fine for me with catfish especially Laser Sharp if you can find them anymore in the size you like. About this year the recommendation for cats is up the Palouse down by Lyons Ferry. Was planing to take a boat up there early next month but relatives coming have made a change of plans. I will be up there by Memorial Day. I'm from the Seattle area so it is a drive for me but Heaven on Earth when you get there and worth it! My best bait is Sucker fish or Pike Minnows and I bring shrimp to.Good Luck.
