Hit the Snake to target Chinook for the first time ever. Drove down from Spokane and launched at about 8:30. We weren't fishing more than 20 minutes before we had our first hit but it didn't stick (a brads super bait in hot tamale at 25 feet of wire in 29 feet of water).
after 30 or so more minutes the same rod started bouncing and my friend was able to land his first salmon (a 23.5 inch jack)
about 40 minutes later the same rod went (time to change the other rods) this time it was something big. after some big runs we finally land the fish, flip it over, and there is that extra fin that has cursed me all season.
So we released my 8th fish over 20lbs this season. (the others all coming from the Brewster pool).
We ended up missing the next fish because the line somehow got wrapped around the down rigger release and couldn't come off. After that we missed a second, and then the wind came up.
Final note.
Apparently we should have changed over to bobbers, many of the Steelheaders did really well today, the successful ones were all fishing shrimp with no jig 17 ish feet down in 23ish feet of water. One guy told me the trick is to make sure the shrimp sits flat and strait.
Good Luck!!
