My son and I took advantage of the weather on Sat and went down to fish Wawaiwai pond for a few hours. I was trying to locate crappie with a bobber and maribou jig set up, but with no luck, We did manage a few small bass on lipless crankbaits. Water is murky, as expected with the Snake in spring runoff. Quite a few other fishermen where giving it a go, but I didn't see anyone catch anything.

I tried inside the wawawai lagoon the friday before all the rain came and got one tiny smallmouth on a crawfish crankbait. Definitely a boat is helpful for getting more consistently into the bass. Later in the day we picked up about 30 smallmouth mainly around the flats downriver towards the dam. Switched to a chartreuse husky jerk right after the sun went down after the crawfish stopped working and picked up 4 bass in quick succession, then soon after called it a day.

rwl, thanks for the follow-on report of the bass action down there on that portion of the Snake. Sounds like they are waking up and hungry! Great time of the year!
