Fellow fishers, if you want to experience one of the best fisheries in the world, then plan a trip to Hell's Canyon, it is something you will never forget. No need to hurry, the Steelhead are stacking in and fishing will be getting better every day, some of the best fishing will be in December, and January.
Barb and I launched at Couse Creek again ( off the gravel ), put the boat on plane, went through a small rapid gettig to a favorite drift, then after a couple of miles downriver pulled the boat off plane, got the lines in the water for a very slow backtroll. there is a little chop on the water, ambient temp. is about 50*, water temp. is 54.6*, heavy overcast, couldn't be better. We are wondering if we will do any good today, when after about fifteen minutes a Steelie hits my lure just about bending the rod double, I jerked the rod out of the holder, steered the boat toward the middle of the river, and the fight is on, after about fifteen minutes Barb slides the net under a real beauty, take a picture, release the fish, then go upriver for another pass. Made one more pass, Barb got one bump, no hookups, so we went to another location that has been pretty good. Had not had the lines in more than ten minutes and Barb's rod slams down with a real fighter on the other end, it comes boiling out of the water, and does a lot of rolling, I'm surprised it didn't shake the single barbless hook, after fifteen minutes or so I netted her fish, thought it would be a little bigger than it was for the fight it put up, took a picture, revived her (the fish) and watched her swim away, and decided to call it a day. We started at 1:30pm, pulled the lines in at 4:20pm, another beautiful afternoon in the canyon.
