Late start at fishing today, but enough time to get in a couple of hours. Barb and I were on the water at 1:30 pm, it is sunny, no wind, water temp. 44.2*, ambient temp. 45*, looks like a perfect day to catch a Steelhead. We go upriver, about a mile above Buffalo Eddy to a nice stretch of water for back trolling, apply scent to the plugs and get the lines in the water. In about thirty minutes, when I was thinking, "hope we don't get skunked today", my rod takes a hard hit that strips out a few yards of line, and it's gone before I can get the rod out of the holder. When I'm pulling in to check the lure Barb said she had weeds on her lure and started reeling in, suddenly a big Steelhead blasts out of the water about twenty feet from the boat, and it's on the end of her line, what a surprise, it wasn't weeds after all, she played it for about five minutes then it got off. We got the lines all squared away and back in the water, in about twenty minutes my rod just about explodes, and I'm into another Steelie, this one stayed hooked, after a fifteen or twenty minute fight Barb slid the net under a nice seven lb. buck. The next fish was going to be Barb's and we did get one more hit, but no fish. It was getting pretty dark and we had a few miles back to the launch, and a few rapids to cross, so we packed it in. It was a beautiful evening in Hell's Canyon. Ken & Barb
