What a day to be out chasing Steelhead. It's noon, Barb and I are looking out the window at a very inviting river, looks like glass, overcast sky, outside temp. is 47*. "Let's go fishing" says Barb, so the chase is on. We get the boat launched above Buffalo Eddy, head upriver about four miles to a favorite stretch of water, and put the lines in after getting the Fat Fish plugs all scented up. In about ten minutes Barb's rod gets a gentle tug, and then just about bends double, she grabs it out of the holder, and the fish is gone. We continue the slow back troll to the end of the drift without another bump, then make another pass without a nudge. There is a short stretch of water on the other side of the river that has been productive in the past, so we decided to give it a try. In a few minutes after getting the lines in, my rod gets a small bump, then another one, then it gives a violent tug and I have a Steelhead on, it comes out of the water five or six times before Barb slides the net under a six pound buck. It's starting to get dark in the canyon, I look at my watch and it's 3:40 pm, we decide to do another pass, in about ten minutes Barb's rod starts tugging, and she is into a beautiful Steelhead, it came boiling out of the water several times, before we landed a chrome Steelhead Hen. It is starting to get dark and we have a few rapids on the way back to the launch, so we pack it in and head for home, after another evening on the beautiful Snake River in Hell's Canyon. Ken & Barb

Jeez, from the list of reports you'd think there was nobody else but KenBarb on this section of the Snake. At least they're great reports and photos! I'd sure like to find some tips for shore fishing area 6.

What beautiful fish! Are there any good spots to fish from shore? Or people/sporting shops to contact in Asotin? We don't have a boat big enough to get out on the river, but we'd love to fish there

Annie & Noah, Yes, a lot of folks catch Steelhead here fishing from shore. From Asotin to there is about thirty miles of very good road, most of it paved, with pull outs at good fishing holes. The most popular type of bank fishing is bobber fishing, and fly fishing. If you are thinking about coming here there are two very good contacts: Camp Cabin & Home in Lewiston 208-750-1075. & Water Edge in Clarkston 509-758-2474 (ask for Stu Waters). From my reports you would think there are not that many fisherman, but this is a destination fishery, and people from all over the world come here to catch the wonderful and elusive Steelhead. When I went out this evening (see 11-18-09 report) there were two boats fishing at my first choice of water, but it is a big, long river with a lot of choices. Good luck if you come over. Ken
