Keeper sturgeon retention in the John Day Pool closed to retention March 30th. Despite tough river conditions and a low quota, we were able to catch several keepers and many more over/under fish! It was definitely a challenge this year with the lower water temperatures, but we found success by offering a lot of different bait options and finding pockets of warmer water with less flow. Despite the closure for retention, catch and release sturgeon fishing takes place all year and only gets better as the water temperature continues to rise! Sturgeon hold a special place for me and my program! Give me a call if interested in chasing these prehistoric monsters!
Spring Chinook is on the agenda now! With the flooding lower Columbia, I moved my clients into late April and May for Columbia River Gorge Springers. We will be fishing Drano Lake and the mouth of the Wind River. Below are my only open dates, however, I work with two other incredible guides in this region, so if you have a date your interested in, give me a call and I will find you a seat! Rates are $200/ seat for this fishery. I look forward to hearing from you!
April 21: 3 seats
April 29: 4 seats
April 30: 6 seats (full boat discount available)
