The drive out to 7 Bays was very foggy, by the time we reached the launch my truck was coated in a thick later of ice. On the way there the coldest temp I saw was 9 deg. At the launch it was 22 deg. 2 boats launched before I did but I still had to break some ice when my buddy Glenn backed me in. We started off across from 7 Bays throwing blade baits but never had a bite; on the cruise over some water splashed onto my windshield and immediately froze over, that finally thawed about 4 hours later. Our rod tips froze up immediately and didn't stop freezing up until about 1300, so yes it was a very cold day especially once the wind picked up.

We went to the same location as last week and boated 8 eaters (15-17 inches) but the wind picked up to 10-15 mph out of the south and I had to fight white caps for most of the day. There was no current to speak of so we were getting blown upriver all day. 35-45 FOW and the same jig colors as last week produced the fish. We also went further upriver but had to play ice breaker for about 100 yards as the river was frozen over up near split rock. We also tried near Wilamont creek and Neighborly with no luck. We headed back down river, the wind broke up the ice, to casino flats. All of the chocolate colored water from Long Lake has made it to the mouth of the Arm. We let the wind blow us across casino where Glenn had 2 hits on a jig but nothing to show for it. Our last stop was once again across from 7 Bays where neither jig or blade bait produced a hit after 45 hard minutes of working the flat. Up near Neighborly the water temp was 35.7 and down near Hawk Creek it was 38.

Tomorrow I get to call Safelite and see if their life time crack warranty is really something they support as my front windshield cracked in both directions from a ding they repaired 2 years ago as we slowed down before entering Davenport. I thought maybe something hit my windshield but no it was just the sudden cracking of my windshield from the cold. Warmer spring temp can't come soon enough.
