This report is for Jan 20th - Jan 22nd.
Friday we started out of Spring Canyon at sunrise. 3 of us on board. Our 1st trip to Roosevelt this year. We fished most of the day, enough hits and fish to keep us digging for more.
In the end we limited on Kokes, and a few rainbow, had to toss back a few wild rainbow and one red band. Most right around 20"
Saturday we had 4 on board. We fished all over between the damn and spring canyon. Again just enough of a bite to keep us interested all day. I think we ended 2 shy of our koke limit, released a few wild rainbow and retained about 5.
Sunday it was just 2 of us. Pushed off a little after dawn, and the lake was on fire. Not completely sure what changed. But my partner and I had 3 kokes in the boat with in 30 mins, and lost about 5 before we completed our 4 fish limit. we caught one rainbow 20" biggest of the weekend. Becuase we limited on our target fish we called it a day. Checking the plotter we has only covered 1.7 miles from dock to dock before we were done.
The biggest issue with this weekend is trying to figure out when to go back.
We had a great time, friends meeting new friends. putting a dent in my recent jerky supply, a bit chilly fishing an open boat, but we survived.
Friday night ended with a great dinner at the Last Stand in Coulee City and Poker back at the house before calling it a night for an early rise Saturday and the 30 min drive.
Saturday night, was equally enjoyable, but the alarm seemed to go off a bit to early but we bucked up and made the icy drive north.
We used all sorts of lures, rainbows seemed to be deeper and koke up high.
Our biggest fish came Sunday, the last fish my buddy caught 22"
One thing I will say, the rainbows are a bit sluggish. we ended up dragging a few off the downriggers with out knowing we had fish, so check those often, and watch your planner, if it seems to be working oddly you might have a rainbow. The Kokes let you know.
