Wasn't sure what the weather would bring today and didn't feel much like a tussle with the boat on a day that could bring some wind - sooooo I elected to go early and sit on the bank across from the two rivers casino and sit there with the rest of the old farts throwing balls/wads of power bait, marshmallows and even marshmallows and a worm doused with some kind of exotic scent to entice a hungry rainbow, etc. Not the first time I've ever done this, in fact I've had the pleasure of bank fishing for 70 years this year - had a martini in June to celebrate the anniversary of catching my first trout - now where I be go'in with this story/report, one never knows what the day will bring, that of course is why we call it fishing. Got there a little before 8:00, B.S.'d a little with two guys that were already there and had a fresh one on the stringer. Shortly after I got there another guy showed up that I've fished with there before - now here is where one begins to suspect that the fishing/river gods are upset with me about something - I sat there for the next five hours and watched all three of them get their limits, pack up, wish me good luck and go home - five hours without even a hit ??? Go figure that out. Being butt tired, bored and in a very poor disposition I decided one more try - I always try to remember persistence is omnipotent - tried mixing garlic and spring green powerbait topped with three marshmallows on one rod and a juicy1/2 worm also topped with marshmallows, tossed out in about 20-24'FOW and 24-30" leaders - thought about a hail Mary or two, but instead just stood patiently waiting for about 15 minutes - to make a long story shorter, I had my limit in the next hour, with one 20 incher - thanked the river gods, the volunteer net pen guys, packedup and headed home - persistence does payoff, sometime. .
I call myself a fisherman all the time but I will never understand fish. It's weird how you can have days where all the luck is not on your side. Awesome report and I'm glad your patience paid off. If there's anything I've learned about fishing it's PATIENCE.
made the bait balls just a bit larger than mice nuts, marshmallows were the real small ones - one of the trout swallowed it to where it just entered it's stomach. When they finally started to bite, it was more of a nibble and I had to let the rod go down several times before I set the hook - it was then they really took off, several of them came out of the water two or three times. I use really light gear for bank fishing - 6 & 8# line and #10 & #12 treble hooks and #6 & #8 siwash for worms - must check the leader after each catch cuz they have teeth sharper than my cat. Yes Lambojac, I like to think I'm a fisherman too, but fish do have a way of teaching us "fishermen" humility. Lessons learned that day were pretty much the same as always, if one thing or one place doesn't work try something and/or somewhere else - thanx for the comments, C U all out there some where some time- keep smil'in and hav'in fun.
