This report is for Friday 11/11 and Saturday 11/12. Fishing at Roosevelt was red hot for rainbows. Fish are averaging 16 inches and chunky. Approximately 20% are holdovers ranging from 18 to 22 inches. We pulled two limits Friday in just under 2 hours. On Saturday we had 6 in the boat in the 1st 40 minutes. Ended up with a total of 8 on Saturday and then the bite just died. Fished from 7:00 AM to 9:00 AM both days in the Lincoln area. We used perch Kekeda flies behind fast limit dodgers and hot wings. Flies were tipped with a chunk of night crawler. Trolled 3 colors of lead core with 50 feet of leader at 2.7 to 3.0 mph. Smallest fish was 15" and the largest was 22" and went 4.5 lbs. Love this fishery.

Great report and nice fish too!

Public Service Announcement - Rules for Roosevelt are changing sometime in December and ALL native trout (kokanee excluded) with an intact adipose fin will have to be released. Please see the news release here - http://wdfw.wa.gov/news/oct0716a/

How do you join the leaded line to the mono?

Lenny Mayo years ago showed at a clinic how to do it. I looked it up on line and it is called the "Willis Knot". Blood knots and nail knots can be difficult and bulky, This is a slick knot and it holds great. YouTube has a video and an animation version. Hope this helps.

We use the Willis knot, as well. Although I started using 2 overhand knots as I had the mono slip out one time. Goes through the guides great.

I used the Willis knot in the past, but have changed to using micro barrel swivels instead. When I use the Willis knot, I always do so with 2 overhand knots for the very reason weld22 mentioned. This is especially an issue with thinner diameter 6lb fluorocarbon leader. Probably the best knot to join mono/fluorocarbon to leaded line is the double uni knot. My fingers just can't handle tying unis anymore and my patience went the same place as my dexterity. ;-)

We use double uni knot works great Hewesfisher is right, it can be pain to tie. Helps if you have another set of hands to assist.

I have found tying double uni's works better me if I tie both sides with the same hand. Put in the first one then flip the line around to do the second one. All of that said I am with Hewesfisher. I use a small swivel that will go through the pole guides and reel to join the lead core to the leader.; helps to eliminate line twist if tangled too.
