Took my vacation week after hearing good reports about the Brewster pool when wdfw opened up the upper Columbia last week. I prepped the boat and loaded up the camper and arrived Sunday afternoon and planned to fish Sunday evening, all of Monday and Tuesday morning. When I arrived at the park, I knew something was up because the parking lots were not filled to capacity like previous years. I gave it a go Sunday afternoon and evening with not 1 bite.
Monday morning I woke up at 5 and had lines in the water by 5:30. Fished till 10am and didn't see a net come out among the boats that were fishing. I called it good and decided to beach the boat and have an early lunch and sleep a bit. Spoke to a fellow angler who told me that he has been fishing 3 days so far with only 6 sockeye to show for it. I was seriously thinking about calling it quits and heading back to Yakima, but decided I would give the late afternoon/evening a try.
Headed out of the cove and back to the Brewster pool around 1:30pm. After several hours of trolling, I finally got a takedown. Tried for a few more hours with no luck. Decided not to fish Tuesday morning and just sleep in so I loaded up the boat and packed everything away. Bar b qued up some burgers and dogs and enjoyed the rest of the evening. Expensive trip for 1 sockeye!
