Well, me and the wifey made our second trip to Roosevelt last weekend and I guess I should post a report. The first day was slow, landed one in the afternoon. Lost a big one right at the boat. Second day was the same in the morning, but towards the evening we left the popular fishing grounds in search of a better location. Spent about four hours in a few spots, then landed in kokannee heaven. 3 fish popped into the boat from the same hole in less than 30 minutes. Every time we circled around through the spot, fish on! Each fish was over 22". Lost a few lower hooks on my rigs but they still caught fish.
After nailing our limit, went back to town for ice cream and Mexican food and camped out that night again. I tied second hooks back on the lures that lost them, and we hit the water early again....straight back to the honey hole. As soon as the sun peaked over the hillside....fish on!!!!
Then proceeded to land our limit before 7:30!!!! Whoa mama what a bunch of fun. Only one of them was less than 20".
All said and done, we fished two full days, one evening and one afternoon. Came home with 10 monster Kokes. Not limits every day but damn we did pretty good for our second trip over there. We were skunked last time so this was a redemption of my abilities to find us some fish!
We caught out fish between 25-50 deep in 120-130 FOW.
Pink and blaze orange were the hot colors, and our leaders were a bit longer than most. Hint hint.

are you using any hardware in from of your lures? Flashers, Dodgers, cow bells?

Yeah. We had great success with several Apexs or spinners 20" behind 4/0 dodgers.
Bait used was white Shoepeg corn with a little piece of minced garlic stuffed up in the kernel.

Well done! Glad you found them. Any hint to where you were fishing?

I typically have no issues with sharing a productive spot, but we do intend to fish this area again....and considering it was not Swawilla....and the traffic that goes with it, I wont divulge our location just yet. (We're going back this next weekend again and hope the same location....or nearby....will be productive again. The fish were stacked up in a very small area, and I would hate to see it get hammered by the large number of people that could be reading this report.
What I will say....is something we all know....find the plankton....and be patient....it took us three days of no fish, and then two days of one fish each day....then bam! Two days of limits. Second days limit actually only took about 40 minutes....but we sent two smaller ones back. I would highly recommend launching before sunrise to find the plankton BEFORE the sun comes up. Our two limits came at 7:00pm and at 5:30AM. If your cruising an area for more than two hours and can't find fish AND plankton, move on. Just because an area (swawilla) is popular, doesn't mean it is always productive. These fish move around a lot more than people think sometimes.

Best hint I can give is that we were between Swawilla and Whitestone. We fished swawilla all four days but only got 2 there and a bunch of rainbows.

The location moves a lot from day to day in summer though some spots can be pretty consistent. The big hint in this and Dave's last report is really the plankton. Find the plankton clouds, and you find the Kokanee.

Great report and follow-up comments and totally agree. Find the food and you'll usually find the fish in close proximity.

Nice pics of your lady friend and the fish dog!

Thanks for sharing.

Fished it yesterday and found limits up by the San Poil. Report posted pending admin release.

BTW, answer to the issue with the second hooks is to tie the hooks using 50LB-65LB power pro. I like to use the red with my red hooks. When you're done snelling the top hook, poull the leader back through the eye and trim close to the knot. Wrap over the top of it with some fly thread to secure the loose end and the knot then finish with head cement or vinyl lure coat. Tie your leader directly to the eye of the top hook and add your favorite terminal tackle. Haven't lost a back hook in over two years since I started using this method.

Takes time to tie but beats losing a nice fish or having to retire a hot rig while the bite is on.

When you say "find the plankton" what do you mean? Are you seeing them on the graph or on the water surface?
