After a couple weeks fishing every day to dial in the technique to find, hook and keep some awesome Roosevelt Kokanee, I think the run has ended due to getting skunked the last two times out. It was like going to the office every day and hooking a couple clients and taking the rest of the day off.
According to "Kokanee University" once the water temp goes above say, 60 degrees and the kokes start developing an egg sack, regarded as "pre-spawn" the kokes source of food doesn't occur at the temperature of the water column the kokes operate. I don't often target a particular fish but these kokes inspired me to fill the freezer. One draw back has been, I look less favorably on my normal catch, Roosevelt trout, after fillets of deliciously red meat from 4#-6# kokes. I'm curious if these prizes will be available in the fall when the fluctuating reservoir gets cold again. I've fished this lake for a number of years and haven't ever come across such prizes as these kokes. Why this year? Where did they come from. I have a ranch on the Sanpoil where the tribe has been planting and tracking kokes and rainbows as well as netting the spiny predators in the Sanpoil bay. Maybe it's working! Love to hear more from the experts like Rosevelt guide and kokanee guru, Captain Dave. Tight lines!
Equipment; top lining @ 120', 2mph, flasher, hoochie or lure, corn, shrimp gel, occasionally downrigger @ 20'-40'. Time of day; 4 a.m.-9 a.m. Early so I could get back to the ranch to change water! HA!

Sorry windburned, I'm just a guy that likes to fish. I try not to question natures blessings. I just try to enjoy them .
