Headed out early with Al and CF to Spring Canyon. While getting the boat ready to launch I realized I left my downriggers in my garage. We all wondered if this was an omen of things to come. I wasn't too worried though as when we were there last week the few fish we got were all fairly shallow. We started right outside the launch as we scrambled to find some weights and sliders amidst our gear. When we finally got enough gear we headed to Swawilla and got our first big Koke within thirty minutes. We ended up finding fish with a 1 ounce weight ahead of our flasher and pink/white hoochies tipped with white corn with tuna oil and pink dyed corn on each hook. Speed generally 1.5-1.8 MPH, the wind played a major factor at times. Over the course of the morning we landed 8 of these gorgeous Kokes, I measured 1 at 21.5 inches and the others all looked about the same size. We had to release 2 as we searched for some RBT. Added 2 decent rainbows but they looked like runts compared to the Kokes. Lost 1 Koke to a snapped 12 lb leader and a few others after some violent hits.
Forgetting the downriggers may have been the best thing that happened to us based on the days results. It was a beautiful day on the water with great friends!
