Target Species: Shad

Number of Shad passed through the Bonneville Dam: 50625

We got there at 4:45am and there was already a long line waiting for the gate to open.

Got 2 in the first 20 mins, then nothing for awhile. Ended the day with 11. Also lost about the same amount of fish that I landed. I was using a 1 piece rod that was way too stiff to land these fish. Had 12lb nano fil main line, used 8lb leader.

I couldn't get a bite using shad darts. I caught them all using crappie tube jigs, chartreuse with red specks.

Lost a ton of sinkers, shad darts, and a few crappie jigs.

It took a long time to figure out how to fish for them. And I guess the fish were just not biting, there was a couple there that said they had caught 55 the day before and only had 4 today.

There was a sturgeon that jumped out of the water, that was an awesome site.

Going up and down the bank was exhausting.

Overall had a fun time. It was 97° F.

Planning to head back down on Wednesday.
