This report is actually for Saturday & Sunday'
Saturday: I launched solo out of Porcupine at 0630, couldn't find anyone to go with me, and fished from buoy 5 back to porcupine bay. I caught one 16 1/2 incher trolling deep down husky jerks a little way down river from buoy 5. I switched to a blade bait and never had a hit so I switched to a jig and caught 13 more eyes. I targeted back eddies and noticed that I only caught fish as they were moving through the area. I didn't notice any particular spot where there was a large concentration. I caught them from 6' to 26' and the smallest fish I boated was 15 1/2 inches, everything else was between 16 1/2 and 24 inches. The water is very stained with about 2' of visibility so I tried to stick to dark colored jig heads and darker plastic grubs and worms. I let the 24 inch 4 1/2 lb. male go, he was definitely ready to find a big girl or two if you know what I mean; the spawn is very far off. I kept my 8 and they were all between 16 1/2 and 21 inches. Water temp was 42-44 degrees. Pictures included.
Sunday: I launched at the same time but had my buddy Glenn with me. We hit the same areas as Saturday starting in the back eddie at buoy 5 and didn't have our first fish in the boat until 0930. Everywhere I caught them on Saturday didn't produce on Sunday which just confirmed my theory that they are just moving through on their way upriver to spawn. The fish were deeper but still hit the same colored jigs, once again never had a hit on a blade bait. We found them between 15' and 30' mainly hanging on the current seams. Our total was 25-30 and we kept only 12, a lot more little guys than on Saturday. Best fish of the day was 22 inch female that Glenn caught and released. The keepers were basically the same sizes as on Saturday. Water was still stained and 42-44 degrees.
