We left Spokane at 5:15 headed for Porcupine Bay, despite the snow and slick road conditions, and the almost constant snow flurries from Airway Heights to Davenport, we pushed on. The three of us adults in the truck had a good laugh on the way when we realized most of the other trucks on the road were pulling boats. We launched at 7:00 and headed up river to an area suggested by many people on this site.

We arrived at our destination, and after getting rigged up and warmed up, we started our drift. Within 5-10 minutes the first Burbot was in the live well (3 lbs 4 oz and 24” long). A big shout-out to High Country for his insight and suggestions about how and what to use to catch these fish. We had a great morning, talking to other fishermen and women in the area that were brave or crazy enough to keep pushing toward the lake while the weather was strongly suggesting we all turn back for home. The bites were pretty frequent until about 9:30, but we still caught a few more over the next hour and a half. We lost a few, and threw some back, but by 11:00 we had 8 in the boat. The biggest one caught, just missed the 4 pound mark, at 3 lbs 14 oz and 25” long. My buddy’s 8 year old daughter had a blast, and after seeing what we caught, my daughter said she will be joining us next weekend.

Glad it worked out. I was there @ 3pm and hauled out 4 for myself.

Thanks for great report. Hoping to get out and try for some Burbot myself in the next week. I caught a couple incidentally while fishing Banks lake last winter for Whitefish. Does any one know much about how to catch them down at Banks?
