Brother in law and i put our hand in for some burbot fishing. We got to the launch at Porcupine at first light. Parking lot was empty, huh, could be an awesome day with the river to ourselves... Yeah, 10 minutes later, there were 6 boats in the water running up river!
We ran up to buoy 5 and were the only ones up there. We moved into 60 fow and began jigging. We caught 1 on green in the first hour of fishing. Brother in law switched over to orange and had 4 more in the boat in the next 15 minutes. Ended the day with 7, with a couple that got off. A good day for us.
The big Burbot had 4-5 crayfish in their bellies that were orange. One was feeding on 4 inch perch/walleye looking minnows.
The bite shut down at noon with most fish coming in that 9-10 window. 5 were in the 3 lb. range while 2 were at 2-3 lbs.
I look forward to these monthly outings!
