Launched out of Ft Spokane with Glenn and Jim and headed upriver. We fished near neighborly and also on outhouse flats. The total catch for the day was 30-35 walleyes, 3 smallies and 1 Burbot. Half were caught on jigs and the other half on blade baits; no color seemed to work any better. The bite was extremely light and half the time you only felt weight before setting the hook. I caught a dink eye on my first cast an never felt a thing. We only kept about 20 eaters with the largest caught by Glenn going about 18 inches. We also fed a pair of eagles on outhouse; we could hear one squawking and figured it was telling us to hurry up and catch something. We caught a 12 inch dink and launched it up in the air; that eagle left the tree before the fish was a foot out of my hand. The fish couldn't sink because of his air bladder. The first eagle circled around us a little too long and the second eagle swooped in without hesitation and snatched the fish. The first eagle flew back to it's tree all ticked off so we flung another dink eye into the air and the first eagle didn't mess around and snatched it out of the water about 20 feet away from the boat. It is always so cool to watch them do that right next to the boat. Anyway it was a cold foggy day on Roosevelt but we caught some fish and had a good time doing so.
Thanks for the report! Another good day on the lake...weather was probably marginal so I hope you had some heat and something over your head. What color jigs and how deep were you?
I accidentally ended salvaging a trip to Fish Lake when the 'bow bite was dead, but the osprey were more than happy to take some frozen anchovies I had in the RV fridge. We tied the 'chovies on to a casting rod and tossed them out. By the time the ospreys got to the chovies, they had thawed and came off when the birds swooped in. Great fun and got some really close up pics! Kids loved it and so did the osprey.
The main Colombia was crystal clear with about 10-15 feet of visibility. We caught eyes in 40-55 FOW with red, green, chartreuse, and black jig heads. So in other words there was no pattern on the color of jig heads and I had my best luck with a perch colored 3 inch swim bait tipped with half a night crawler. Hopefully in the next month they will start moving towards and up the Spokane Arm.
CCCTMark - congratulations ! your report was used in this morning's (1/21) Spokane S-R paper in the outdoor section re lotsa walleyes up the Spokane arm, etc.
