Friend Ron really wanted to return to Roosevelt for some more of those beautiful kokes. He had his friend Bill going and tempted me with "hey you wanna go to Roosevelt?" naw I dowannago. Yeh right; of course I wanted to go even though I shouldn't.
I tempted my brother in law too so the four of us headed to Spring Canyon to fish Swawilla again. In the water at 7:00AM and lines in around 7:20. Ron got the first kokanee shortly and we figured we'd get them quick this AM.....not so fast;caught some bowes and a couple of more kokanee and they quit around 9:30. We finally trolled a little further up into the basin when they started to bite again. Best bite for us was between 11 and 1. Go figure!
A UV pink RMT dodger with a Herzog inspired custom mini hoochie rig utilizing a spinner blade from a Rooster Tail trolled 65' @ 1.1 to 1.5 mph was the hot lure for the day. The fish really loved the garlic shoepeg corn I made. Finished the day with a limit of 8 beautiful kokanee (two wilds each), 10 trout and two walleye all caught on kokanee gear.
This is my last trip before heading to the mouth of the Deschutes to fish Chinook. Back to Roosevelt in late October or early November to begin the wonderful fall/winter triploid trout fishery.
