My wife and I are avid shore fishermen. We don't take our boat with us when we head over to Eastern Washington fishing. We feel we have all the opportunity we need from shore without messing with the boat. For years we have been driving down to Rufus Woods by the net pens to fish the Triploid trout. This year we decided to give Roosevelt a try since the water was so low. We felt the head of the bay in from the Spring Canyon park boat ramp would be as good a place as any to start. We caught our limit of nice Rainbow trout, some 18 to 20 inches, in about three hours. Needless to say we were thrilled. What could be cheaper and easier than plunking from shore using small white marshmallows and worms for bait.

The next day we went over to an area the locals call "Geezer beach" on the other side of Grand Coulee Dam past the Casino. and limited again with beautiful rainbows and some Kokanees. A note here: this area is open at sunrise and closes at sunset when the employees at the dam close the gates for security at night.

We ended up coming home with our possession limit of nice rainbows and quite a few kokanees mixed in. The taste of these trout is fantastic. My wife is allergic to Salmon prepared any way but canned. A good quality Columbia River trout has become our go to, as a replacement for salmon. We have been camping at Spring Canyon for about twenty years and have friends in the area. In past years we have always gone up to Rufus Woods for the Triploid fishing. However, in the last few years due to the upgrading of the net pens the quality and number of fish reachable from shore has declined and feel a two fish limit is no longer warranted. That is what prompted us to give Roosevelt a go. I would say it has become our favorite trout fishing spot for now.

Thank you for a great report. Like you and your wife, my wife and I primarily shore fish and with a little effort and research we generally do very well. I agree with you that the quality of the flesh of the Lake Roosevelt rainbows is beyond compare.

No disagreement from me on quality of rainbow at Roosevelt, IMO, best in the state. Amazing to hear you caught kokanee too, have never heard of anyone doing that from shore before so that's awesome you were able to do so! Thanks for your report. :-)
