I rated today a 5 for 2 reasons: 1. the catching was a lot of fun, and 2. I was able to take out my new Tracker for the first time on the Arm. Now to the fishing. Jim and I launched early out of Porky and headed up river to just below buoy 5; Jim had the first walleye in my boat on his first cast, a nice 18 inch keeper. The first 3 hours was very productive with us drifting jigs and silver blade baits. The jig head color didn't really seem to matter as-long-as you had a grub or worm body that was brown or green like a crawdad. Most of our fish came from less than 20 FOW and the bite was very light. Back eddies and the river channel edge were the keys to our success. The best fish of the day was 6 lb 1 oz beauty that Jim caught near what we call eagle tree, she was released after a couple of pictures. The rest of the 40 eyes were all very happy males looking for a date with one of the big girls. If the spawn hasn't yet started it is imminent. We kept 18 eye all between 16 and 21 inches, most of the rest were 14-15 inches and just a little below my boats slot limit of 16-22 inches. Jim also caught a couple of slimers that were about 16 inches and i caught a nice 3 lb smallie as well. All in all an excellent day on the water.
