Epic day on the upper Columbia. Weather was great and sun came out. Fishing was unbelievable with trout ranging 2-5 pounds all day. Water had just the right push to keep fish feeding all day. Great day with great memories. All fish C & R Except one walleye that went home to the grill:)

@Jorgec We launched at Northport and fished south of town. Make sure to check the regulations there are two closures in this section of river. Just an FYI the launch is getting close to being out of the water. Small boats sometime launch in the mud when it is this low.

Great looking fish. BUT its not wise to post a photograph of yourself totally removing a fish from the water if you then release the fish. It is a violation to do so.

@gregsalmon Could you tell me in the regulations where it states that for rainbow trout? Thanks

That would only be for salmon, steelhead and bull trout, it says nothing about any other fish. But, it isn't the best thing to do for highest survival rate other than that...not a violation.

Handling Rules Freshwater:
It is unlawful to totally remove salmon, steelhead, or Dolly Varden/bull trout from the water if it is unlawful to retain those
fish, or if the angler subsequently releases the salmon, steelhead, or Dolly Varden/bull trout.

@gregsalmon thanks for the information. The rule does not cover Rainbow trout in this part of the river system.
@bjw444mar I agree with your statement. We only removed this one fish for a photo out of the many caught this day. I always promote catch and release on native fish. Thanks

Thanks for the report moosezema, that is a good picture. Have thought about making the trip to Northport many times. Is it okay to park a camper overnight at the boat launch?

@kenbarb Yes they have a great facility right at the launch. Paved parking and I believe a couple of power hook ups. Restrooms in the park and you are with in walking distance to town. The weekend after the 4th of July is the Lions fishing derby. Always a fun time on the river.

Ummm, the report was for the "Upper Columbia", which is like a 20 mile stretch of water. Not exactly a "fish next to this rock" kind of report.
