Slick roads and fog this morning as we headed for Seven Bays. Roads actually got better as we got closer to the lake. I was with friend Ron in his 22' Hewes along with Scott and my brother in law Dan. My brother in law had a serious back surgery and this was the first time he had been out since mid November....he REALLY wanted to go.
The water was rough and the wind was raw but it was not raining...yet. No fish the first couple of passes down by Sterling and we had on all of the tried and true tackle. The water temp was a very cool 36 degrees, wouldn't want to fall in for sure!! Moved on down river and found some willing fish. We caught them on Scott's orange and yellow custom flies along with some coming on an orange bellied jointed Rapala. I switched to the Perch Kekeda and the race was on......it was the winner today with most and biggest at 18" or so. The Rapala scored the second biggest. As always these fish are fat and feisty. They were liking 1.8 to 2.2 mph and were in the top 15'.
The bite stopped around noon and we had 15 fish in the boat so we headed back to Seven Bays trolling. Decided to pick up the pace to 2.5 plus and suddenly we had a triple....yahooooo! Picked up another single that made 19 and we only needed one more for the limit and thought we were going home without it. We picked a spot to call it quits about 5 minutes up river from where we were and Ron said he would drive and get the last fish hooked up since it was his. That's exactly what happened and Ron got to catch the last fish in the rain.
The rain turned to snow by the time we got back to the launch. Fun trip home as I got to sleep while Ron drove. Brother Dan was all smiles, he had a great time getting out. Life is good catching fish with family and friends. We are truly blessed to have lake Roosevelt in our back yard.
Tight lines - Alan
