Some friends and I took a 4 day holiday at Twin Lakes in Ferry County (6/25-6/28).
We spent most of our time on South Twin Lake, as it proved to be the most productive for Trout - deep trolling pop gear with Dick Nites or Rooster Tails tipped with pink powerbait. Oddly enough, we found trolling fly's tipped with worm to be the most effective tactic on North Twin Lake.
We also spent some time Bass fishing; every other cast would produce a fish, but we never managed to catch one of substantial size. We did however watch a guy filet a 4lb. Smallmouth at the Gut Hut.
Overall, we caught approx. 35 Rainbows and countless Bass. The biggest fish of the trip, a 16" 2lb. Rainbow, was caught using a black and gold fly trolling the north shore of North Twin Lake.
Be aware that Twin Lakes is on the Colville Indian Reservation and requires a special license. Also, the trout are infested with Lice (white or brown rice shaped parisites), but they scrape right off with the scales and do not affect the quality of the meat. The owner of the resort told us the ratio of Rainbows to Brookies is 20:1. We never got one to the boat, but we plan on catching the elusive Brook Trout on our next trip.
