Left Spokane about seven in the AM on Saturday headed to Seven Bays through the unexpected snowy roads. Wait a minute I thought the snow was not supposed to get here until Saturday PM. So much for the weather report! Sure glad I have four wheel drive with studded snow tires.

Launched after being checked for fishing licenses by the Park Rangers. Never had that happen before. Headed down river towards Sterling and started fishing part way down. No love there on Rapalas or Kekeda flies. Dave got the fist fish, on a Rapala, when we went further down river. It was a dandy 19 inch wild (pictured). I got the second one after switching to the Perch Kekeda and it was a 20" wild also shown in the second picture. We worked hard , got nine and really tried hard for the last one. Had it on three times, twice on the Perch Kekeda, oops stepped on it and bent the stinger hook almost closed on one to the hooks. Just would not stay hooked up that way. Hooked up on Dave's orange jointed Rapala just before heading home and it came loose half way to the boat. That's fishin' !!

Tight lines - Alan

PS Found out you can purchase annual launch permits for Roosevelt at the store down by Ft Spokane. They open at 8 am

Wow! Those are two great fish. Looks like your hard work paid off. Sometimes that last fish seems impossible and not meant to be. Thanks for the report. -Dave

Nice fish AL! I didn't get out this weekend but the locals tell me it has slowed down a bit. The guys told me the wardens(boat) and park service are out checking. There's a lot of fishing going on so good for them.

Nice fish guys!!! NPS has also added an online payment option - https://www.pay.gov/public/form/start/64970644. My permit arrived 3 days later, same as when I mailed a check. Good news is the annual launch permits are still $30 for us youngsters. :-)

Interesting that the Park Service checks fishing license. Do they have an agreement with the state? Just curious because the border patrol has tried this up north. So I did some checking and their supervisor said that is not border patrol's job and they would not be enforcing state regulations.

Nice report, and those are some nice big RBT . Did not go down there last week but will try to go this week. The water is still around 1284 ft. and if they start lowering it we might try to fish further toward the Dam, have always liked the Spring Canyon area to fish so might try that. Tight lines TERRY

I know what you mean about the park service. last year I was checked twice by them and I ask them why are they checking me and they said that lake roosevelt is federal waters and they have that right. They were a little upset for me asking that queston. nice fish that you got.

@BDA I will check with our local wardens and get the low down. I never have anything to hide so I usually go along with it. But sometimes I like to know the real truth. It is Federal waters regulated by State. Things that make you go HMM:) Great report downriggeral Sorry to be jacking your post:(

moosezema - No hyjack here. I never have anything to hide either and don't much care, minor inconvenience. What I do wonder though is if I'm not fishing and only getting ready to launch the boat is it legit to ask to see my fishing license? Just food for thought, not trying to stir a hornets nest. - Alan

hewesfisher - Thanks for the info - Sorry you're not an "old" guy yet. It has it's advantages like stiff joints..................humm I'd trade the $15 savings in for youth; not too young though. AH

I was checked twice last year by the FS for my Washington State Boat Ed card. Wondered the same thing.

Have only been checked by NPS Ranger once, and that was last year for a safety inspection including boater's card. Honestly cannot remember if he checked our licenses, not that it would matter. Like others, we have nothing to hide and are glad to see NPS, Sheriff and/or WDFW out checking to make sure everyone is playing by the rules. :-)

Always like your reports downriggeral, looks like great fishing when you get it figured out, and it looks like you have done that. Those are really nice pictures.

Thanks for all of your comments.
kenbarb - Thanks, I always enjoy your reports too. Not too many reporting on the areas you fish. When do you start fishing Dworshack for the kokes?
