Launched out of Porcupine solo today and headed upriver very slowly. I just replaced my throttle assembly and it wasn't working right and I didn't want to try fixing it in the dark so I used my kicker to head upriver. An hour or so later I made it up to buoy 1 and started hitting the current seams with jigs in 18-20 FOW. Caught lots of dinks doing this but it paid off in the end as I boated 56 eyes for the day. I kept 12 16-19 inch eyes, I could have kept a limit but just don't need that many fillets, I actually gave away 6 fillets at the cleaning station to some campers. The biggest fish of the day was a 23 inch spawned out female who is stilling swimming to spawn another day. Everything was caught on jigs with a black head and chartreuse 4 inch worm working the best. The eyes did get some payback though, I have probably hoisted thousands of eyes into my boat without ever getting hit by my own jig, until today. Luckily I was using a 3/8 oz jig at the time and wearing polarized sunglasses because now only half my right eye is black and blue. It has been quite some time since I had a shiner but I have one now. I did get the last laugh though because my belly is filled with freshly cooked walleye fillets. HAHAHA. Eventually I did get my big motor running and made it quickly back to the launch. Overall an excellent day on the Arm.
