I just returned home yesterday from the Columbia River Gorge after spending two weeks fishing in the Wind River and Drano Lake Fisheries. We had a mix of fantastic days, slow days, and everything in between days. Most fish were caught on a combination of prawn spinners and herring pulled behind Fish flash Flashers by Yakima Bait Company. We also picked up quite a few in the early mornings at Drano flat lining MagLip 4.5 plugs in the Double Trouble and Thumper color patterns. I also have been fishing some new rod and reel combos this season thanks to Okuma. I am running the T-40x 1062MH’s with Cold Water reels. All I can say is that these setups are amazing. I would put these rods and reels up for comparison against gear priced twice as high, they are that sweet! I will be back fishing this fishery next year and for anyone who wanted to join me but was unable to make it work, you really owe it to yourself to check these fisheries out with me next season.
Now that I am back at home I ready to target spring Chinook here at home on my home water, Idaho’s Clearwater River. I am working as an employee of Reel Time Fishing to run these trips so please contact me for details, but I will have you contact Toby Wyatt (twyatt1973@gmail.com) to finish the booking process. With that said Clearwater Spring Chinook are my favorite fish of all to target. Combine the early summer weather with some of the best fighting and eating fish in the world and you have a winning combination. The fishing here can often be just as good as many parts of Alaska, with the added bonus that you only need to travel to North Central Idaho to make it happen. The last two weeks of May and the first two week of June are prime time for this fishery. Get in touch with me now at 208-861-0654 to get the ball rolling to book your dates.
Fish the Columbia, Snake, and Clearwater Rivers for salmon, steelhead, and sturgeon. For drift boat trips on Idaho's Clearwater and Washington's Grande Ronde rivers, we fish out of a 20x72 Willie Drift Boat.
