Headed back out onto Lake Roosevelt with clients again for a two day Rainbow and Walleye trip. The Walleye fishing was slow to say the least but the Rainbow fishing was hot. We fished flies, spinners, and plugs. We limited both days in about 2 hours. We fished lead core and downriggers. I think this weekend downriggers out fished the lead for once. We fished in 100ft of water most of the time down 12-20ft. We were going to try and fish burbot on Sunday but the launch at porky was blocked off since the river is completely froze across right there which I haven't seen forever. The only launch right now that is open is Ft Spokane, all the others are all frozen up and blocked off. Remember to let your trailer drain before you pull it out each time, it keeps it from icing up any worse that it already is. It seems WDFW is doing a lot of lake and at the launch patrols since we have seen them almost everyday we have been there ( four times this last week) hopefully catching these guys taking more than their limits or fishing with to many poles.

I have seen the river freeze over that area before. Lots of deer fell thru and when the ice melted the southeast shore of the bay beach had more dead deer then I had ever seen before.

Those Rainbows from Roosevelt are the best eaters in the state.

Lol... It is just something I will never forget. I used to park by the inlet at the bottom of the hill and walk all the way around to the point just to catch Walleye and Rainbows.

Craig,
Great talking to you at Ft Spo launch Sunday. I had driven down to Porky to launch earlier and couldnt believe it was froze over. Therefore, delayed my fishing for about 45 minutes to get back up and out to Ft. Thanks for tips on fishing when we were launching. We ended up with 8 between my girlfriend and I. Missed a lot of strikes when they would hit hard then run. I was letting out first lead line and when I hit 150 on the line counter (you had told me about 225 or so) my pole bent over and we had first in the boat. So, we fished 140-160 and did well with lead. Need to get my downriggers set up.
Thanks again.

Beautiful fish! We were surprised with how chunky these fish are. Great report and nice of you to include the info on the launches.

No ice breaking for me lol already hit a couple chunks this season and took off transducers. Way to expensive to fight the ice..
