This report is for Friday and Saturday. We launched out of Seven Bays Friday morning and started trolling in the bay as you come out of the launch area. The water was calm, too calm. I like some chop seems to help the bite. We had four of us on board so that meant we had to catch 20 if everyone got a limit. We fished mostly flies and Rapala's.

We found the fish at three colors leaded line and 20' on the downriggers. One of the most successful setups was an orange bunny leech off the downrigger. It was really working. The other was an original Rapala F13 with an orange belly and chartreuse sides. What a blast we had! We had 17 in the boat when the WDFW officers checked on us to see how we were doing. They were very polite and when I showed them the 19" 3# Kokanee they were very surprised! man do those Kokanee fight great! It hit the Rapala of all things.

Finished out the day with our limit of twenty fat rainbows and one really fine Kokanee.

Went back to Seven Bays Saturday and took my brother in law......he whined that he really wanted to go Saturday so I loaded up the boat and away we went in 2 degree weather this morning....brrrr........

Rods in about 10:30 with a little wind and chop; sure glad for the top and heater! We no sooner got going and here came the WDFW officers again! He remembered me from yesterday and just wanted to see brother in laws license. We got finished up by 2 with 10 beautiful rainbows. What a beautiful day with bright sunshine shining through the windows on the boat. Very pleasant indeed.

Tight lines - Alan

PS put the silver in the pellet barbeque for dinner tonight ...YUM!!

Awesome kokanee Alan! The biggest one we've taken (4lbs, 2ozs) was boated a couple years ago by my wife downstream from Sterling Point and it hit a Rip'n Minnow trolled at rainbow speeds. Sounds like you guys had a great two days on the water. Really happy to hear WDFW is checking folks, in the 8+ years we've been fishing Roosevelt, we've never seen one. The closest we came was going through a safety check at the ramp with a Park Ranger. Wednesday's trip may be in jeopardy with the overnight low Tuesday forecast to be 4° and Wednesday's high only 17°. :-(

I do think I see a "Doo-hicky" behind his dorsal and tail fin!!

Alan:
What a beautiful kokanee. If it wasn't so far to come from Castle Rock, I would love to head over and enjoy the wintertime fishing with you. I'm not sure my camper would not freeze up in that cold of temeratures. Also my Lund doesn't have a top on it so I would be out in the weather. But I'm glad to see you having such a good time and staying warm.

Beautiful picture of the water. That is a really nice Kokanee too! Two days of great fishing on Roosevelt... I have to say I'm a little envious. Thanks for the report.

Awesome, makes me wonder if the kokes are spread out this year. The kokes are delicious and the best fighting fish. Truly a trophy fishery even if you only get one or two an outing.

Chalie, The silver had a very small adipose fin and thus was a wild one. The game warden looked at the adipose and he agreed it was small but still there.
onrrka007 - I did finally figure out out that the orange clouds I was seeing on the sonar were most likely zoo-plankton daphne. The water was loaded with fish in those areas and we caught trout that were full of them. I also sonared kokanee (Lowrance HD7 with Airmar P66 Transducer) in the 30 to 40' range. Not schools but individual fish. Didn't take the time to target them; maybe next time!
